As we walk in on Leland Wallin, he is reading.
The objects around
him tell a story. He is remembered for his sandwich and
Diet Dr. Pepper, which seemed always to have been in his
hand. More importantly, he is remembered for his connection
with Phillip Pearlstein. He studied with him and wrote several
articles about him, one of which is published in the forward
of the book about Pearlstein he is reading in the painting.
Since Leland Wallin is a true colorist, the color wheel
has special significance in the painting.
